Don Coxe has four decades of institutional investment experience in Canada and the US.
As a strategist and investor, he has been engaged at the senior level in global capital markets through every recession and boom since the onset of stagflation in 1972.
He has worked on the Buy Side and the Sell Side in several capacities and has managed both bond and equity portfolios, and served as CEO, CIO and Research Director.
He has, since 2011, been a director of Spanish Mountain Gold, a small, early-stage gold mining prospect in British Columbia.
Don has served as Portfolio Strategist, Research Director or CIO, for BMO Financial Group, Harris Bank, Gordon Capital, Wertheim Schroder, and Mutual Life of Canada—moving from Bay Street to Wall Street, and since 1993, LaSalle Street.
He was awarded a Brendan Wood Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. He was ranked No. 1 in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 surveys, and was top-ranked for many years in Brendan Wood Canada.
Throughout his career of 4 decades, he has written an investment strategy journal for clients. He now distributes his views and recommendations on the global capital markets to institutional clients through The Coxe Strategy Journal, and conference calls.
Until October 2016, Don was Portfolio Consultant to the Coxe Commodity Strategy Fund. Launched in 2008 at $297m it was the largest IPO in Canada for the year. Operating through the post-Crash bear market for commodities, the Fund consistently outperformed the TSX and other competitors.
Don was portfolio manager of Harris Investment Management’s flagship mutual fund, the Harris Insight Equity Fund, a US large-cap value fund for 7 years.
He was founder and CIO of an investment management firm owned by Mutual Life of Canada managing both bonds and stocks, he was ranked among the top managers in Canada for 10 years.
Pension Fund Policy
Don has lectured at actuarial conventions on pension policy, based on his experience for six years on the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Advisory Committee, and four years on the Royal Commission on the Status of Pensions in Ontario.
In 1989, he testified as an Expert Witness, for the Social Security Subcommittee of US Senate Finance Committee on the invitation of Senator Patrick Moynihan, (to discuss the operations of the Social Security Trust Fund and the CPP Investment Fund.)
Member of the Board of the Toronto School of Theology for 7 years during the
1980s, and Chairman of its Finance Committee for 4 years.
Independent member of the Investment Committee of the Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia from 1998 – 2005.
Practising law in Toronto, serving as general manager of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, and General Counsel of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.

Don is a key-note speaker and presenter for conferences and industry events in banking, mining, oil & gas, agriculture, and real estate conferences.
He regularly appears in television, radio and newspaper interviews discussing financial markets.
Between 1997 and 2005, Don was a columnist for Canadian publications: Maclean’s, The Globe & Mail, Canadian Business, and National Post.
In 1962 to 1963 he was Editorial Associate, National Review (New York) and remained on the masthead as contributor until 1993.
Global Mining Industry
Considered an expert on mining investment, Don has spoken to mining conferences in North America and Europe for 3 decades.
As a strategist, Don has consulted for mining company Boards and management in the United States and Canada.
